A temporary police center is being built in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen ski stadium for the G7 summit at the end of June.

For safety reasons, the live cam of the Olympic ski jump has to be pixelated in this area.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - In just under two months, the time has come: from June 26th to 28th, the G7 summit will take place in Schloss Elmau in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

This is the second time and, like in 2015, the absolute state of emergency is threatening again.

When the heads of state and government of the seven most powerful western industrial nations meet, this means one thing above all for the locals in and around Garmisch-Partenkirchen: massive restrictions.

Blocked roads, identity checks, plus thousands of police officers and demonstrators.

As a precaution, the Ministry of Education has ordered three days of home schooling for schools between Karwendel and Staffelsee.

G7 summit: Preparations complex, but also strange

The preparations for the meeting are as complex as they are sometimes questionable.

More than 50 trees recently had to give way to a hiking car park, which is being converted into an asphalt helipad.

The trees had only been planted there after the last summit.

After the summit, which lasts no longer than 72 hours, the asphalt is removed and new trees are planted.

The webcam of the Garmisch-Partenkirchner Olympiaschanze is also affected by the precautions for the G7 summit.

Normally, the website of GaPa Tourismus GmbH offers a wonderful view over Garmisch-Partenkirchen, across to Wank and Kramer.

Although you can still see the mountains, there is a round pixelation in the middle of the picture: the area around the ski stadium cannot be viewed live at the moment.

G7 summit: ski jump webcam is pixelated for security reasons

A temporary police and justice center is being built in the stadium for the summit, including detention cells for alleged criminals or suspects.

The stadium is therefore a "sensitive security area", as the police reported when asked by Merkur.de.

"Police measures relevant to security are carried out here that are not intended for the public." The area is subject to special protection, which is why the live cam in this area has to be pixelated.

The measure met with little approval on social media.

A user in the Facebook group “You come from Garmisch, if” posted screenshots of the webcam and provocatively provided a picture with the question: “What is being kept secret here?

Even though you can see everything from the street!”.

In the pixelated area is the slogan "G7 summit casts its shadow ahead".

Another picture is commented on with the inscription "pointless waste of money".

On it you can see the police center in the stadium, which is made up of containers.

G7 summit: Social media users are surprised at the pixelation

The user's post is liked and commented on several times.

A user writes ironically: "Well, the whole effort is made for 1.5 days after all" and then asks why the G7 group photo is not taken annually on a US aircraft carrier.

Another sees the whole thing as silly and is of the opinion that "nothing will come out of it anyway" at the meeting.

It is not yet clear when you will be able to enjoy the image from the webcam again without pixelation.

When asked by

Merkur.de, the website operator said:

"This area will be visible again as soon as the official orders after the G7 summit allow it again."
