Local hero Laura Siegemund missed her third semi-final entry at the tennis tournament in Stuttgart.

The only German quarter-finalist of the clay court event was eliminated on Friday 5:7, 3:6 against the Russian Lyudmila Samsonowa.

This means that the last time a German participant was in the top four was in 2017.

Stuttgart - At that time, the Swabian Siegemund surprisingly won the title.

The 34-year-old did not use a good chance against the unseeded Samsonowa.

Nevertheless, the Metzinger can take self-confidence from the tournament after her knee operation last summer.

Only thanks to a wildcard did she get into the main draw of the most important German women's tennis tournament.

After her month-long injury break, the former Stuttgart winner had not yet won an individual before she made it into the top eight at the Porsche Grand Prix thanks to two victories.
