The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a crew member of the Russian missile cruiser Moskva died while trying to put out a fire, while 27 others were missing and 396 of the remaining crew members were evacuated.
"As a result of a fire that occurred on April 13, the cruiser Moskva was severely damaged due to the explosion of ammunition, and attempts to extinguish the fire did not lead to results," the ministry said in a statement today.
"While fighting the fire, a soldier died, 27 crew members were missing, and 396 other soldiers were evacuated, who were transferred from the ship to the ships of the Black Sea Fleet in the region and then transferred to the port of Sevastopol," he added.
The Moskva cruiser belongs to the Black Sea Fleet and entered service in 1983 under the name Slava, and in 1996 it bore its current name and its main armament is 16 Vulcan B-1000 missile launchers.
On April 14, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the cruiser Moskva sank while being towed to port, affected by a storm and bad weather conditions.
