The model of the open all-day school (OGTS) at the primary school in Walpertskirchen is on the brink.
There are still too few registrations for the long group.
Walpertskirchen
- Free afternoon care on the brink: Can the model of the open all-day school (OGTS) be held at the primary school in Walpertskirchen?
Or do other routes have to be taken due to a lack of registrations for the long group?
This issue was discussed at length in the council.
Mayor Franz Hörmann (CSU) informed the committee that the OGTS, which is free for parents, was introduced in the 2015/16 school year and has replaced the paid lunchtime care.
"In recent years it has become more and more difficult, especially to meet the minimum strength in the long group," he explained.
This is looked after on four weekdays except Friday until 4 p.m.
In order to receive funding for this school offer, at least 14 so-called census children would have to be registered.
This term refers to children who are generally cared for until 4 p.m. on four days, or alternatively two children who are registered for this on two days of the week.
So far only ten registrations for 2022/23
Already in the current school year it was only just possible to form a long group.
For 2022/23 there have only been registrations for ten counting children.
If the long group does not come about, three short groups can be assumed, for each of which only twelve counting children would be required.
The catch: The OGTS can only be operated as cost-effectively as possible with one long group and two short groups.
In addition, some parents are dependent on a long group for professional reasons.
Should this not come about, the members of the municipal council saw two options: either only offer free OGTS short groups combined with paid afternoon care, or generally return to the conventional extended lunchtime care, which would also have to be paid for by the parents.
The introduction of an after-school care group as a third alternative was judged to be impossible to implement in the short term due to the lack of time, especially since additional pedagogical staff would be required for this.
The problem was presented in a letter to parents from the school administration and the municipality.
After the existing OGTS school offer with the municipality as a cooperation partner has continued to be the best solution, it is now hoped that there will be enough registrations.
OGTS: The cheapest form, but also a compulsory school event
Hörmann emphasized that the OGTS is "the cheapest form" for the legal guardians, but at the same time a "compulsory school event" which the registered children then have to attend regularly.
The head of the community also pointed out that compulsory all-day care should be introduced in 2026.
Regarding the number of pupils, Hörmann informed that "perspectively the bottom has been passed", 78 children are currently attending the school, but an increase to around 100 pupils is expected in two to three years.
For the coming school year, Josef Heilmeier (CSU) did not rule out "that the counting children will still come about" and said that further clarification had to be carried out here.
Beate Aust (SPD) shared this opinion.
The OGTS should be "advertised" in communication with the parents.
Rita Reichwein (SPD) affirmed that the establishment of a day-care group would not take place in a short time due to the great effort involved and also pleaded for the preservation of the OGTS.
The municipal council unanimously voted in favor of continuing the model if possible.
Now it is up to the necessary registrations and thus not least to the decision of the parents as to whether this path can be successfully taken.
By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.
