Cyclists who want to take a break or have to do something at Miesbacher Stadtplatz now have it easier: They can "park" their bikes at the new parking facilities.

Miesbach

– When Kick van Walbeek and her colleagues from the working group cycle through Miesbach, they always have a long list of tasks in their minds.

During their tour on Maundy Thursday, the group around their chairman, Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller, was finally able to tick off one point as done: the new bicycle parking facility on the town square.

For Walbeek, who sits on the city council for the Greens and is also involved with the ADFC, nothing less than the first clear sign of the revival of the Rad working group, which was initiated a few years ago. And a motivation, further deficiencies that emerged in the extensive inventory in the district town tackle in terms of bicycle friendliness.

27 modern bike racks made of metal and wood

The city had purchased 27 modern bicycle racks made of metal and wood at the request of the working group and the resulting positive decision in the building committee.

The building yard set up part on the town square next to the Michaelsbrunnen fountain and opposite the Waitzinger house.

Walbeek explains that the remaining parking facilities are to be placed at the Straß kindergarten and at the Montessori kindergarten.

The costs for the city remained manageable thanks to the federal funding program "Stadt und Land".

Less the 90 percent subsidy and the work of the building yard, the expenses were limited to an amount of less than 1000 euros.

The bike racks passed the first test by the members of the working group.

Among other things, Walbeek appreciates the fact that bicycles with trailers and cargo bikes can dock.

Owners of expensive e-bikes can also park their two-wheelers there with a clear conscience.

Walbeek hopes that this may be one more reason for some people to use their bikes in everyday life and not just for sporty tours.

After all, anyone who spends so much money on a bicycle does not want to tie it to a traffic sign, a fence or a lamppost.

Other locations are also to receive new parking facilities

In some other places in the district town, cyclists still have no choice, Walbeek knows.

As an example, she cites the market square, where when the weather is nice (especially on weekends) there can be real “bicycle chaos”.

The existing parking facilities would simply not be sufficient to absorb the rush.

Walbeek considers the situation at the train station, where there are still no bicycle parking spaces, to be even more urgent.

The problem: The site is privately owned, the possibilities for the city and thus also for the working group to influence it are limited or almost non-existent.

Despite the headwind, Walbeek wants to pedal here too.

Especially since the time for grants - also through the train - is favorable.

If necessary, one could first talk about a temporary arrangement.

The main thing is that things get moving.

The AK Rad also remains in motion. During the tour on Maundy Thursday, further solutions for hurdles and danger areas for cyclists in Miesbach have already been discussed, reports Walbeek.

In addition, there are the quarterly meetings of the AK.

Walbeek also concludes from the feedback from citizens that the topic of bicycles is more relevant than ever in the district town.

"I'm always spoken to." The success story about the new bike racks on the town square will definitely be coming soon.
