Authorities confirmed that the body found in an abandoned cistern at a motel belongs to the 18-year-old girl, who had been reported missing since April 9.

The Nuevo León Prosecutor's Office in Mexico confirmed that the body found in a water tank in a motel in that state corresponds to Debanhi Escobar, who lasted 13 days missing.

"The scientific tests carried out allow us to communicate that the body found is Debanhi Susana, the cause of death being deep skull contusion," said prosecutor Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero.

The body of the 18-year-old girl was found Thursday in an abandoned cistern at the Nueva Castilla motel, in the municipality of Escobedo, near where she had last been seen on April 19.

The victim's father, Mario Escobar, confirmed that the body found was that of his daughter on Friday morning and said he recognized her by her clothes, a long camel skirt and white top, and the crucifix she was wearing the day she disappeared.

Escobar criticized the actions of the prosecution that had already searched the place for several days without finding the whereabouts of the young woman.

 “

13 days here, how many times have you been here?

”, She said in a video in which he spoke with journalists.

Debanhi Susana Escobar connected to her phone for the last time on April 9 at dawn at kilometer 15.5 of the highway from Monerrey to Nuevo Laredo, in front of the motel where she was found dead.

A photo of the young woman alone on the highway was taken by a taxi driver who was supposed to take her home from a party but dropped her off instead.

In the area where her body was found, a search party that included dozens of volunteers, police dogs and drones met every day to try to find her.

"No line of investigation is ruled out, we will put all the resources in our hands to determine the facts that have happened and, if these indicate a crime, they will be prosecuted with the full force of the law," said the prosecutor.

"It was not an accident, it was femicide!"

The fact has caused the outrage of several feminist groups that have gathered to protest in front of the Nuevo León Prosecutor's Office, the government and the place where the young woman's body was found,

"Nuevo León, the clandestine grave" was one of the harangues they shouted, according to the Animal Politico media outlet.

The protesters insist that the preliminary hypotheses suggesting that the woman fell into the cistern are not true.

Violence against women in the state has increased so far this year.

Every day a little more than 10 women are murdered in Mexico.

In 2021, 3,462 murders against women were registered and of these 922 were classified as femicides.
