Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's death analysis showed a nearly 30 percent increase in gun-related deaths among Americans up to age 19 between 2019 and 2020. These deaths include suicides, shootings and accidental homicides.
According to the data, gun homicides across the United States rose by 33 percent in 2020, and black Americans felt the increase unevenly, adding that although blacks make up 14 percent of the US population, they represent nearly half of crime victims. murder in the country.
The data showed that 2020 was the first year in which more American children and teens were killed by machine guns than car accidents, and that gun violence was the number one cause of death among black teenage boys over the age of 15 for at least a decade.
The data also indicated that the number of deaths from car accidents and gun homicides among infants, children, and young adults in America since 2016, while deaths from drug overdose and poisoning cases increased by more than 80 percent between 2019 and 2020, becoming the third leading cause of death among young Americans. .
Dr. Jason Goldstick, an American researcher at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in this regard, “Gun violence increased, but I was surprised by the level of increase for only one year,” adding: The numbers are horrific, especially since these deaths are preventable.
And an opinion poll revealed in 2021 that 57 percent of Americans support stricter laws regulating gun ownership in the United States of America, while many international experts in the field of human rights said, “The right to possess a gun in American law is a fatal American freedom,” and that the mass killings that Americans awaken to it from time to time is a prominent feature of American society.
