LA CASE BD - The American duo Adam Smith on the screenplay and Matthew Fox on the drawing transports the reader to the heart of a deep America steeped in brutality and occult beliefs. Striking.

The desolate banks of the Mississippi are home to the Flatbed, a clandestine café which the young Myers has just inherited after the suicide of his father.

The regulars of this drinking establishment, most battered by life, surround the shaken young man with all their compassion.

Because Myers didn't just inherit his father's sordid place.

He also owes him deep crises of anxiety that only the water and the mud of the river manage to calm.

The method is infallible: as soon as anxiety overwhelms him, he plunges his feet into the Mississippi, remembering his father's soothing words.

"It will pass.

It always ends up happening”

, he told her.

Faced with this slump, his mother, who abandoned him as a child, resurfaces.

With her husband, she leads a religious congregation with a mysterious cult.

Lost, Myers turns to her, for better and especially for worse...

The American tandem Adam Smith on the screenplay and Matthew Fox on the drawing offer with

Water and Mud

(ed. Robinson), a dizzying dive into a deep America scarred by alcohol, brutality and occult beliefs.

A world conducive to sectarian aberrations.

The book paints a terrifying portrait of a fanatical community which, under the pretext of religious belief, allows itself the transgression of human laws without flinching.

A congregation populated by souls in pain, in constant communication with the dead and losing touch with reality.

Relayed by the semi-realistic line of Matthew Fox and enhanced by a cold and striking atmosphere, this work illustrates the most deranged twists and turns of the human soul.

This board is set at a key moment in the story.

When Myers suffers a panic attack, his spirit summons his father from the dead.

For me, this page lays the emotional groundwork for the book

,” says Matthew Fox.

Deprived of the presence of his father to face his anxieties, Myers maintains a psychic bond with him which reflects what bound them in real life: a relationship based on mutual support, the two characters suffering from the same disorders.

“To convey the exact nature of Meyers' relationship with his father, I made that support physical again.

In this embodied relationship, Meyers clings weakly to his father before holding him up himself.

I wanted to give substance to this subtle exchange of vulnerability and protection that we all seek in the family.

This quest is the crux of the tragedy that leads Meyers down a dark path.

Throughout the story, the bluish tint of the board accompanies each crisis of the young man.

A voluntary atmosphere for the designer: “

This palette of cold and twilight colors allows me to contrast with the tumult, the wave of panic against which Meyers is fighting.

Like a prelude to a dark destiny.
