At about 2 am today (24th), the police received multiple reports that someone set fire to the corridor of Fung Wai House, San Tin Wai Village, Sha Tin, and many people were trapped inside.

The police and fire department arrived at the scene and found a fire in a unit. The fire department opened two throats and two smoke-cap teams to rescue them. The fire department rescued a number of injured people from the building. Among them, one male and one female occupant were unconscious and were sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The police arrested a man suspected of arson at the scene. His head was burned and his body was blackened. He was also injured in the incident and was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Seven people in the incident were taken to hospital for treatment, and the case was listed as arson. Police are investigating the incident.


From the clips provided by readers, it can be seen that a unit on the upper floor of the building caught fire at the time of the incident, and the fire was quite violent.

Resident Mr. Wu pointed out that someone was burning debris at the door of the unit at the time of the incident, and the fire spread rapidly afterwards, affecting the debris in the house.

He and other residents then dragged the hose to the lower floor for rescue, but the hose was not long enough and could only shoot water outside the door. After that, the firefighters rushed to the scene and rescued the trapped occupants in the house.

He pointed out that the arrested man had lived at the above site for more than 10 years, often talking to himself, and was a bit "in a trance".
