North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has described the SPD's Instagram spying attempts on the underage daughter of the resigned Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser (CDU) as a "scandalous process".
"Spying on children is not possible," said Wüst on Saturday at the central election campaign start of the NRW-CDU in Düsseldorf.
Dusseldorf - "The protection of our children on the Internet is non-negotiable." He expects from NRW-SPD leader Thomas Kutschaty "the immediate and complete clarification of this scandalous process".
In the course of the so-called Mallorca affair, an employee of the parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group, Sarah Philipp, tried to spy on the Instagram account of Heinen-Esser's 16-year-old daughter.
Heinen Esser resigned on April 7th.
It had previously become known that the CDU politician had met other members of the government in Mallorca a few days after the flood disaster in July 2021 to celebrate her husband's birthday.
Heinen-Esser's daughter was also in Mallorca at the time.

A new state parliament will be elected in North Rhine-Westphalia on May 15th.
According to polls, the CDU and SPD are neck and neck.
Kutschaty is the SPD's top candidate and therefore Wüst's challenger.
