The Tunisian Coast Guard announced today that 17 people died when boats carrying illegal immigrants sank off the coast of Tunisia.
Reuters quoted the coast guard as saying that four boats carrying 120 migrants, bound for Italy, sank off the Tunisian coast near the city of Sfax, noting that five bodies were found today, in addition to 12 bodies found during the night, while 98 others were rescued. .
In recent months, dozens of people drowned off the Tunisian coast, with the number of attempts to cross from Tunisia and Libya to Italy increased, and hundreds of thousands of people crossed the Mediterranean on a perilous journey in recent years.
