With 721 of 808 votes cast, Rudolf Sonnleitner (non-partisan voters) was elected First Mayor of Oberhausen on Sunday.

Oberhausen

– The 65-year-old was the only candidate, a total of 1762 citizens were entitled to vote.

According to election officer Michaela Winkler, the names of 70 other potential applicants were also mentioned on the ballot papers.

Sonnleitner, who comes from the neighboring town of Huglfing, is an experienced local politician and has been a member of the municipal council in Oberhausen, where he has lived since 1985, for two decades, including six years as second mayor.

His great-grandfather and his uncle were mayors in Huglfing.

Before retiring, Sonnleitner worked as a communications engineer with a global communications company.

One of his retired hobbies is gardening with geese and chickens.

The new town hall is to be inaugurated on May 1st

After months of arguments (we reported), he wants to provide positive impetus again in the council committee, he said yesterday.

Numerous tasks and projects await the new mayor in Oberhausen, including the construction of a new elevated tank and the connection of the station road to the village road and the renovation of the church wall.

In addition, the creation of a new building area on Waldstraße is being examined, and apartments are also to be built in the Westenriederhaus.

The freshly renovated and remodeled town hall is inaugurated on May 1st.

"Fortunately, our community is debt-free and the coffers are well filled," says Sonnleitner.

His day began at 7 a.m. on Sunday with the hanging of the flags for First Communion.

After counting the 808 votes in the evening, Sonnleitner had a traditional snack with the election workers at the Stroblwirt inn before celebrating his election success with friends at home.

Mud fight after the surprising resignation of the predecessor

Sonnleitner succeeds Thomas Feistl, who unexpectedly announced his resignation at the end of last year.

He raised serious allegations against the municipal council, which later ensured that his deputy also resigned from office.

This caused a debate in the district about what local politicians now have to endure in office.
