Police arrested over the weekend a suspect in assaulting a police officer on the Temple Mount.

His detention was extended today (Sunday) in court.

The suspect, a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in his 20s, was arrested on Tuesday during the violent riots that took place in the Temple Mount area, when immediately after the act he fled from the police into the mosque on the spot.

The arrest was made by Border Police officers working in the Jerusalem District, and the suspect was transferred for questioning to the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District.

His detention was extended by several days in order to complete the investigative actions in his case.

The police said: "We will work to bring to justice those suspected of incidents of violence in general and those directed at police officers in particular."

There has been tension in Jerusalem in recent days as lawbreakers enter the al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount every day, where they rioted and threw stones and Molotov cocktails outside.

The policemen allowed the Muslims to pray alongside the visits to the place as usual, this morning the same lawbreakers also threw Molotov cocktails from it in addition to the stones that were thrown.

One of the Molotov cocktails thrown by the rioters in the mosque fell on the entrance carpet to the mosque and caused a fire that was immediately extinguished, another Molotov cocktail fell in the doorway of the mosque window, which could have led to the fire.

The two Molotov cocktails that fell come after documentation of ball games in the mosque, stones and fireworks, so it seems that the desecration of the mosque by lawbreakers who prevent Muslims in their actions from entering and causing damage to the place continues.
