40 years after the Galilee Peace War, the IDF archives at the Ministry of Defense reveal documented videos from the days of the fighting.
In June 1982, the IDF launched Operation Peace of the Galilee, later known as the (First) Lebanon War.
The operation turned into a full-scale war and the infiltration of Israeli forces into the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
During the operation, the government demanded the evacuation of PLO terrorists from Lebanon, who attacked the northern settlements. Indeed, the PLO leadership and thousands of terrorists were forced to leave Lebanon in August 1982. The IDF remained in Lebanon, continuing a war that included clashes between Lebanese political forces.
Last March, the Ministry of Defense announced that it would establish the Campaign Museum in Lebanon.
The museum will be located in its territory inside the Metula police building, which served during the years of fighting in the security zone as the IDF division commander who defended the northern settlements.
