The nomination period for the 6th Chief Executive Election ended last Sunday (April 17). The Qualification Review Committee confirmed that the former Chief Secretary for Administration, Li Jiachao, became the only candidate. He was described as "the only candidate supported by the Central Committee". It may be a new chief executive produced under the "one-person mode".
However, there are also many people who criticize that this non-competitive election model is not in line with democratic principles, and they even worry that Hong Kong's future path to democracy has been interrupted.
However, the standard against which this criticism is compared is the idealized democratic vision of Europe and the United States, but ignoring the populism generated in the practice process does not help to improve the quality of governance.

What kind of advisers does the chief executive need?
Chief executive candidate Li Jiachao announced last week a list of up to 148 electoral advisory groups and presidiums, including leaders in Hong Kong's political, business, academic and other fields.
As the saying goes: There are many people to do things. Li Jiachao has stated that the next five years will be a critical period for Hong Kong to be governed and prosperous. If such a prosperous advisory group and presidium help out, it really reflects the cohesion and solidarity of social forces as the prospective chief executive said. It is a blessing for Hong Kong to develop and reform the governance concept.
