As-Suwayda-Sana
The branch of the Arab Writers Union in As-Suwayda, in cooperation with the Damascus University branch in the governorate, opened today a book fair at the Second College of Fine Arts on the occasion of World Book Day.
The exhibition included about 700 titles of the Union's publications and publications in various literary genres after 2016, at nominal prices, with a discount of 60 percent.
Head of the Writers Union branch, Wejdan Abu Mahmoud, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the exhibition aims to promote the culture of reading among young people, especially university students, and to make the book accessible and to provide an opportunity for readers and those interested to obtain it at low prices.
For his part, the Director of the Damascus University branch in Sweida, Dr. Khaled Kiwan, pointed out that the exhibition comes within the framework of the agreement with the Book Union branch and in partnership to spread the culture of reading and writing among the young generation and to move from the university towards the community, so that these exhibitions constitute sources of knowledge for students in light of the lack of the university branch and its faculties There is a central library.
The exhibition was accompanied by a symposium on the role of cultural and media institutions in the face of normalization, in which the member of the Executive Office of the As-Suwayda Governorate, the writer and traveler Adnan Azzam, the Director of the Radio and Television Center in Sweida, Dr. Farouk Sharaf, and a member of the Sub-Office Authority of the Writers Union, Dr. Fayez Ezz El-Din, participated.
The symposium dealt with the responsibility of intellectuals and cultural institutions in confronting the calls for normalization, the schemes of the Israeli occupation entity, attempts to disperse the Arabs, diverting the compass from occupied Palestine, activating the role of institutions in this direction, spreading awareness and promoting culture among all, especially among the younger generation, and strengthening Arab nationalism in the face of normalization.
