The security area around Schloss Elmau will be larger at the G7 summit in 2022 than in 2015. The fence around the Schlosshotel will be extended significantly.

The clearing work for this caused trouble for residents.

Krün – There was no question that he would come back.

Since last week, attentive walkers in Klais have clearly seen the signs: Wire loops attached to protective mats on many trees at a height of about three meters.

Anyone who was there seven years ago will recognize them.

These are hangers for the fence that will be erected around the Schlosshotel Elmau area again in a few weeks.

It is intended to protect the participants of the G7 summit from June 26th to 28th from demonstrators and all others who want to disrupt the summit or even have worse plans.

There are still many unanswered questions, said Werner Sika, head of the G7 planning staff of the Bavarian police, on Tuesday evening in Krün.

The municipality had invited all Elmauer, Klaiser and Gerold citizens to an information evening.

In other words, all those who are hit the hardest by this major political event.

For them it means: grit your teeth and get going when security areas 1 and 2 around the castle are closed on June 19, i.e. in 65 days.

"There are still a lot of gaps in the planning, we're still missing a lot of details about the summit meeting," admitted Sika.

He was therefore unable to give a large status report.

But it is clear that the fence will come.

"He is urgently needed for security."

What is also certain is that the exclusion zone, in contrast to the G7 summit in 2015, will be larger.

This time the fence not only goes to the toll booth, but even to the historic Roman road, as the wire loops already installed show.

The clearing work for this now caused a "big nuisance" in the village, said Sandra Steinhauser, municipal councilor and Klaiser mayor.

"Whole trees have been felled.

How far is that supposed to go?

Was it urgently necessary to cut it?” she asked on Tuesday evening, surprising the planning staff.

Because according to Sika's information, only "bushes and branches" would be removed to make room for the "technical security", as the fence is called in official German.

“I would be surprised if so many trees were cut down.

After all, we need them to hang the fence.”

Already installed: The suspension for the fence, which this time will even run along the Römerweg.

Mayor Thomas Schwarzenberger (CSU) went to the Klaiser Römerweg on Wednesday morning to inspect the clearing work himself - because nobody knew yet whether these were actually measures for the fence construction or other forestry work.

"Exactly two trees were cut down," confirms Schwarzenberger.

However, the birch trees were over 50 years old, which were sick and should have been felled anyway.

Otherwise only bushes and branches were actually removed.

Were rotten: Two 50-year-old birch trees were felled during the construction work.

The head of the town hall does not yet know when the security fence will be erected.

According to Sika's planning staff chief, "he is currently in the works".

This is how the security forces protect the venue from any disturbers.

The G7 opponents have already registered demonstrations in Klais and Elmau.

Among other things, a permanent rally is to take place at the station car park from June 25th to June 28th from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

"But there is still a lot to be agreed with the authorities," explains Schwarzenberger.

There are still many other unanswered questions, even though the summit will take place in just 72 days.

But the federal government has a lot on its plate at the moment in view of the war in Ukraine.

The supporting program for the G7 guests is not yet in place.

However, this time the Klaiser, Gerolder and Elmauer can expect traffic obstructions, bans on entry and controls.
