The traffic light coalition wants to pay families a one-off child bonus to relieve them of the increased prices caused by the Ukraine war.

All information at a glance.

Munich/Berlin – The aftermath of the corona pandemic, disrupted supply chains and the Ukraine war are driving prices up in Germany.

In March, the inflation rate was 7.3 percent.

Low-income families in particular are feeling the consequences of this very clearly in their wallets.

The federal government has therefore put together a relief package.

In addition to the 9-euro ticket and the energy flat rate, families should receive a bonus payment per child.

Child bonus in the relief package: This is how it is paid out

The child bonus should be 100 euros per child.

It is then paid out in addition to child benefit via the family coffers.

In principle, all parents in Germany who also receive child benefit are entitled to this.

Similar to the family bonus in the Corona pandemic, this special payment is also offset against the child allowance.

High earners therefore do not benefit from this.

When exactly families can look forward to the extra money is not yet known.

The other measures in the relief package, such as the 9-euro ticket, are scheduled to start on June 1st.

Child supplement: 20 euros more for low-income families

Parents who only have a very low income can receive the so-called child supplement.

The maximum amount here is 209 euros per month;

the amount depends on the "personal circumstances of the family".

From July 1st there will be an additional child allowance of 20 euros per month – a maximum of 229 euros.

This subsidy is to remain in place until the basic child security system specified in the coalition agreement is introduced.

According to the SPD, Greens and FDP, benefits such as child benefit, Hartz IV and the child allowance are to be combined in the basic child security system.

The basic child security should therefore “consist of two components: an income-independent guaranteed amount, which is the same for all children and young people, and a graduated additional amount dependent on parental income.”
