The handball players of TSV Ismaning celebrate the premature championship in the state league and the associated promotion to the Bavarian league.

– In the hustle and bustle of celebration, nobody thought of the wheat beer tankard.

And so it takes a good quarter of an hour after the final siren before the oversized glass finally finds its way onto the handball field – in the arms of Stefan Lattner.

Only the team oldie from TSV Ismaning doesn't know what to do with it at first.

Because coach Christoph Ilg, for whom the content of the tankard is actually intended, is already dripping wet in the center circle.

There, his handball players gave him the beer shower, which is obligatory for such promotion parties, shortly after the end of the game.

And with bottled beer.

Now one could argue that Lattner and the tankard are simply too late - but that would not go with this lavish evening in the Ismaninger Isarena.

Because in the duel against HSG Lauf/Heroldsberg, the hosts are trailing behind for 45 minutes.

But then they wake up just in time to turn the game around - and in the end win 27:25, with which they early secure the title in the Landesliga Mitte-Ost and the associated ticket for the Bayernliga.

A lot of nervousness at the beginning

"It was clear to me from the start that the guys would be nervous today," says Christoph Ilg, while the last drops of beer are still falling from the tips of his hair.

"And you noticed that in the first half." His handball players, who are usually so strong in defence, not only allow themselves unusual weaknesses in defence, but they also squander half a dozen first-class chances up front.

Especially with Yannick Teschner – this season the most accurate Ismaninger – the throwing hand trembles again and again at the end.

And so the TSV is 10:13 behind at the break, so that the almost 300 spectators already have to worry about the hoped-for break in promotion.

The Ismaningers themselves had only found out the day before that this game would be a match point in the fight for the title.

The reason: their next opponent, TSV Mainburg, had withdrawn their team from the game at short notice.

"It wasn't easy for the boys because it was suddenly a completely different situation," says Ilg.

That was probably also a reason for the meager first half, which didn't match the performance of the Isar Devils in the past few weeks, in which they had won eight in a row.

In the second round, the guests from Lauf/Heroldsberg initially kept the lead – until 13:16.

But then suddenly a jolt went through the Ismaninger team, which was mainly due to three things.

First, goalkeeper Marcelo Miranda-Jahn parried into a frenzy;

second, between the 40th and 50th minute, Jan Zobel fired the ball four times into the opposing net;

and thirdly, Yannick Teschner found his usual strength again.

His two goals within sixty seconds at 23:20 were the preliminary decision in a game that TSV then brought home in a sovereign manner - while everyone on the players' bench and in the stands were already cheering for the promotion celebration.

This then started with the final siren and didn't want to end anytime soon.

So the people of Ismaning continued to celebrate after the wheat beer tankard had already been emptied - not over the head of the coach, but in the mouths of the future Bayern league handball players.
