The 65-year-old who was killed today in another fatal collision is added to the long list of dead on Road 90 • "Green Light" data: In the last decade, 33 people were killed on the Arava Road - two of them last week • MK Meir Yitzhak Halevi, formerly Eilat Mayor 300 NIS 1 million to widen another 19 km of the road: "Unfortunately, the fatal accident illustrates in my blood that my cry for an upgrade of the entire road is right"

Route 90 has once again become a trap for commuters in its southern part.

This morning (Tuesday), for the third time in a week and a half, there was a fatal car accident that claimed lives as a result of a collision between a truck and two vehicles between the seats Hatzeva and Ein Yahav.

One woman was killed, another woman was injured and four children aged 12-6 were lightly injured.

According to data from the Green Light Association, based on CBS data, in the last decade there have been 134 road accidents on Road 90 (part of the Arava Road) in which 452 people were injured, of whom 33 were killed and 84 seriously injured. Only two were killed last week. People were injured in the one-lane section of Highway 90, and dozens were injured.

Just a day ago, the mayor of Eilat, Eli Lankri, warned of the dangerous road in an urgent letter he sent to the Minister of Transportation, Meirav Michaeli, in which he demanded an accelerated move to continue upgrading the Arava road in accordance with approved agreements and budgets.

This morning he said that "it is sad to realize once again how bloody this road is and how important it is to make it a two-lane road, with dividing lines - as was done up to the 63rd mile, a section of road that became completely safe and saved many lives."

"The situation screams to heaven"

In an agreement with the Ministry of Transportation, it was decided that at this stage an additional 19 km would be upgraded on the Arava Road, from the Ketura junction to Nahal Shita. Shekels for that.

"Unfortunately, the latest fatal accident in the chain of accidents on the Arava Road," says Halevy, "illustrates in blood and deaths that my cry for an upgrade of the entire road is right.

According to Nissim Peretz, CEO of Netivei Israel, which is upgrading the road, he says that a tender will be issued for an operating contractor in the coming days, and that work will begin this August to widen the road along the 19 km.

The Green Light Association said: "Road 90 continues to claim victims, and every ride on it is a gamble on life. Many fatal accidents could have been prevented if there had been a separation fence between the roads. It is easiest to blame the drivers, but the road infrastructure is unforgivable. "Could that lead to death. How many more people need to be killed for this bloody red road to become a safe road?"

The head of the Middle Arava Regional Council, Meir Tzur: "In the fatal accident on the bloody road, a dear resident of the Arava was killed, who only lost her husband two months ago due to a serious illness. There are no words to express our grief and anger. Urgent budget for widening the dangerous road in Israel from the Arava junction to the entrances to Eilat?
