BMW board member Pieter Nota has made a clear declaration of war on electric car pioneer Tesla.

The Munich carmaker would like to catch up in the field of e-mobility.

Munich – BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz are probably the best known and most traditional German car manufacturers.

But when it comes to innovation, the US youngster Tesla is clearly ahead of them.

But that should be over soon.

Tesla secures place as the most innovative carmaker

Every year, the research institute Center of Automotive Management (CAM) selects the most innovative automobile manufacturer in its “Electromobility Report”.

Since e-cars have been on the rise, Tesla has continued to fight its way up in this ranking.

In the current report from 2022, the US group even secured first place - leaving behind Volkswagen in second, BMW in eighth and Mercedes-Benz in ninth place.

But the Munich carmaker BMW does not want to be satisfied with this result and apparently ends Tesla's supremacy.

"It's over," said Dutch BMW manager and board member Pieter Nota, as reported by

A clear announcement to Elon Musk's electric car company.

BMW: By 2030, every second car sold will be fully electric

By 2030, every second BMW sold should be fully electric.

Nota explained at a press conference that his company is "focused on a very strong and rapid increase in electric vehicles".

BMW wants to sell 200,000 electric vehicles worldwide this year, reports

.

But the comparison shows that BMW still has some catching up to do, as Tesla delivered over 310,000 electric cars in the last quarter.

Oliver Zipse, CEO of BMW, also makes it clear that BMW wants to become dangerous to the US carmaker Tesla.

“Demand will skyrocket.

We're already seeing that with the iX and the i4," he said, according to

futurezone.de

.

"We will push the company to the limits of production capability," Zipse made clear.
