A wolf has been sighted again in Oberallgäu.
A wildlife camera near Balderschwang photographed him.
Is he an old acquaintance?
Balderschwang – The wolf was photographed by a wildlife camera in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park near Balderschwang (Oberallgäu district).
It is still unclear whether this is the same animal that has been sighted again and again between Oberallgäu and Vorarlberg for several years and has been given the
name "GW999m"
.
The probability is high, says the nature park director Rolf Eberhard to the BR.
Wolf falls into photo trap - photo is a surprise
The wolf had already fallen into the photo trap in November 2021.
The recording was only viewed recently because the wildlife camera is set up in a somewhat remote area.
The relevant department of the State Office for Environmental Protection (LFU) has already confirmed that it really is a wolf.
The wolf has never been sighted by the park rangers.
This is a sign that the animal is behaving according to its nature and is shy.
There have also been no reports of unusual cracks in the region so far.
Wolf GW999m demonstrably on the move in the Allgäu Alps since 2018
The wolf GW999m (Grey Wolf, consecutive number of the LFU and "m" for male) is one of the eleven animals that are loyal to the location in Bavaria, as stated on the website of the State Office for Environmental Protection in wildlife management.
"A wolf is considered to be faithful to its location if it is detected over a period of more than six months or if reproduction is documented." This is the case with the wolf GW999m.
There is photo evidence in July 2021. Evidence of a male wolf by genetic analysis of urine was previously provided in March.
Further gene analyzes in January to May 2020 could therefore be clearly identified.
As early as 2018, the wolf was detected in the Allgäu Alps and in the border area of Bregenz Forest (Austria).
The problem wolf from Upper Bavaria is dead: carcasses found in the Czech Republic.
The wolf kept people in southern Upper Bavaria in suspense for a long time.
The farmers in particular wanted him dead.
The male wolf with the designation GW2425m was cleared for firing after several cracks.
Since 2006, individual wolves have been detected in Bavaria time and time again – however, as a rule, they are migrating young animals.
Young males in particular wander very long distances of 50 to 70 kilometers or more daily in search of their own territory.
According to the LFU, genetic research revealed that a young male who was run over near Starnberg in 2006 came from a pack near Nice.
There are wolves that are loyal to their location in the border region of the Bavarian Forest and Bohemian Forest, at the Grafenwöhr military training area, in the Veldenstein Forest and in the Rhön.
