What's next for Kreuzlinger Feld?

That will be decided in the coming weeks and months.

The citizens' initiative (BI) Livable Germering sees the city as having an obligation after winning the referendum on the planning stop at Kreuzlinger Feld.

The administration and city council must now tackle the task set consistently.

Germering – Around 600 apartments, some of which are socially funded, a primary school with a daycare center, a supermarket and small shops: according to the plans for Kreuzlinger Feld, this should have been built on the area between Alfons-Baumann-Straße and the railway line.

This is waste for now.

The referendum initiated by BI Livable Germering was approved by a clear majority of 60.69 percent of those entitled to vote.

This initially means an immediate halt to planning and the start of a new ideas competition.

That's what the BI says

In a detailed statement, the representatives of the BI recalled the difficult history of the citizens' initiative.

After the initiative had collected the necessary number of signatures despite the difficult pandemic circumstances, the city council rejected the request for legal reasons with the votes of the CSU and free voters.

Representatives of the BI complained against it and were successful.

The referendum took place.

Now you have a more than clear result, writes the BI.

It was time to thank everyone who supported the project.

Support was received from all opposition parties in the city council, the ADFC, the Bund Naturschutz and the Bündnis Zukunft Germering.

From BI's point of view, the main losers were the CSU, which backed the investors' plans without any ifs or buts.

She failed miserably with that.

The success of the referendum is a milestone for the city, because it wasn't just about preventing something or being against something.

Rather, the goal was achieved to embark on a new path.

The statement ends with the request: “By accepting the referendum question in the referendum, the city administration and the elected city council have been given a clear mandate.

Both would do well to tackle this task consistently and in a result-oriented manner.”

That's how the investor sees it

The investors for the planned development, Vilgertshofer Wohnbau and HI Wohnbau, are "disappointed that the plans for a modern, social and sustainable district did not convince the majority of those voting".

The managing directors Thomas Vilgertshofer and Florian Zappel (HI) also thank the people of Germeringer, who supported them in numerous discussions at the information stands, in social media and via all other information channels.

Vilgertshofer: "Even if we wished for a different outcome of the referendum, one thing has undoubtedly become clear in the last few weeks: the Germeringer overwhelmingly want Kreuzlinger Feld to be further developed."

Vilgertshofer and Zappel then leave open whether they will participate in the future development of the area: "Whether and, above all, how this decision can now be successful, one has to carefully consider internally and evaluate the vote." Now it is also up to the city council , to set the general conditions for a possible re-planning for the Kreuzlinger Feld, as demanded in the referendum.

CSU seeks the conversation

CSU local leader Oliver Simon, he is also spokesman for the parliamentary group in the city council, writes that his party would have liked a different result.

But the majority of citizens would like new planning for the Kreuzlinger Feld, and that is respected: "Now the signs are back to the beginning." The CSU will seek dialogue with everyone involved in the coming weeks to discuss the next steps - also how the open ideas competition with renewed citizen participation should ultimately look like.

Above all, Oliver Simon calls on the initiators of the referendum to contribute with constructive and realizable suggestions.

He justifies this by pointing out that the BI has taken up the cause of striving for a different development.

Finally, Simon appeals to all parties involved: "We are called upon to leave the tough and sometimes very emotional election campaign of the past few weeks behind us and return to the constructive, trusting cooperation that Germering is actually known for."

ÖDP is happy

The ÖDP is pleased in a statement about the high turnout and the clear "yes" in the referendum.

City councilor Tanja Pfisterer also points out that the ÖDP's idea goes beyond that of the citizens' initiative Livable Germering: "As is well known, we advocate not cultivating the field at all."
