Storm warning for the SUV market.
To serve high ambitions, Maserati is adding a little brother to the Levante marketed since 2016. With the Grecale, which takes its name from a wind that blows very hard on the side of the Greek islands, the firm with the trident wants to count on the coveted segment more compact models.
It will be able to rely on quality overall services, starting with a neat finish, generous rear roominess and a boot volume of 570 litres.

Rendering only 170 mm in length to the Levante, which will grow in 2024, the Grecale (4.85 m) is closer to the Cayenne than to the Macan.
Its balanced silhouette emphasizes dynamism, but some will find that its oblong front optics give it an air of Ford Puma.
The resemblance ends there, since under the hood slumber powerful mechanics.
The Trofeo version (€115,400) thus benefits from the Nettuno V6 of the MC20 supercar.
Civilized for the occasion, it loses the dry sump and 100 hp, but the 530 hp are more than enough to display top-notch performance.

More than the accelerations, the occupants will be intoxicated by the crackling and rumbling of the V6.
Especially with the Corsa mode which reduces the shifting time of the 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Without however equaling Porsche.

In terms of behavior, with air suspension, the compromise favors comfort over sportiness.
We did not find the excellent sensations of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, with which the Grecale shares the Giorgio platform.
A more complete test on more suitable roads than the test course, which was confined to peri-urban areas, should allow us to refine our impressions.
Even if it's not his favorite playground, hollow paths are not forbidden to him: the off-road mode raises the ground clearance by 30 mm.

By far the most advanced Maserati ever produced, the Grecale flatters the senses with its quality materials, its neat finish, apart from the steering wheel buttons whose touch remains imperfect, its perfect ergonomics and its state-of-the-art equipment: digital instrumentation, head-up display high, two superimposed touchscreen tablets, voice recognition, engine-turned wheels.
Main originalities of the board: buttons located between the two central screens replace the gear lever;
the now digital clock offers the choice between a classic needle or digital display.
If the Trofeo does not escape the supermalus (40,000 €), the Grecale is also available in 4-cylinder with light hybridization.
While waiting for the 100% electric version in 2023 with a battery of more than 100 kWh.
