Dr. Nidal Satouf, Coordinator of the Hands Project at the Faculty of Architectural Engineering and supervisor of the exhibition, stressed to SANA the importance of the various traditional works included in the exhibition, which confirms Syria’s richness in ancient handicrafts, pointing to the importance of supporting these industries and reviving them by creating a state of partnership between craftsmen and students and finding courses that achieve Theoretical and practical linkage regarding these crafts and teaching students how to make them.

The exhibition, which included students from the faculties of architectural, electrical, mechanical, chemical and petroleum engineering at the university, is considered, according to Dr. Abbas Kasuha, a teacher of plumbing at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Al-Baath University, as a joint project between the university and craftsmen within the Hands project to revive traditional industries that are linked to some engineering specialties at the university, such as the plumbing craft from which they are made. He pointed to the need to interact with craftsmen, transfer their experience to the university, and add some scientific and educational vocabulary to the academic curricula, with the aim of graduating students who are able to engage in craft work in a high scientific, technical and artistic manner.

Ahmed Al-Kurdi, head of the Crafts Association for Heritage Professions in Homs, confirmed that the case of partnership with Al-Baath University and the craftsmen will witness the revival of some craft professions that are on the verge of extinction.

Student Rania Al-Bitar said: I participated in a set of products with the aim of reviving traditional professions and reproducing them in line with our study, while the student Majd Mahfoud found that the exhibition constitutes an opportunity for students who have talents in handicrafts to highlight their abilities and employ them optimally.
