The United Nations has warned that the world will face 560 disasters annually by 2030 if the pace of climate change continues.
A new report from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, carried by Agence France-Presse today, stated that by 2030, we will face between 350 and 500 medium to large-scale disasters occurring worldwide annually, i.e. an average of 1.5 disasters per day if current data and facts continue to affect change. climatic.
The report indicated that this rate of natural disasters is five times higher than the average during the previous three decades and estimated that another 37.6 million people will live in conditions of extreme poverty by 2030 due to the effects of climate change and natural disasters, noting that the Asia and Pacific regions will suffer the largest economic losses. .
For her part, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, warned that ignoring the great dangers we face due to climate change "puts humanity in a spiral of self-destruction."
The world is suffering from catastrophic events caused by drought, extreme temperatures and devastating floods frequently, while it is expected to increase more in the coming years due to the increasing harmful factors that accelerate the pace of climate change.
