Within the celebrations of our cultural institutions on the World Book Day, the two branches of the Arab Writers Union in Aleppo and Tartous organized two exhibitions of the Union's publications at low prices.

In Aleppo, Tishreen Hall in the Directorate of Culture hosted the exhibition, which included more than 150 titles that varied between novels, short stories and studies in poetry, fiction, novel and theater.

In a statement to SANA’s reporter, Dr. Ziyad Mahbek, head of the Aleppo branch of the Writers Union, explained that the exhibition, which is being held over four days, includes 20 new titles, pointing out that books printed before 2015 are sold at a price of 200 Syrian pounds, and books printed from 2015 are sold at a discount of 60 percent, which encourages Opinion on reading especially for students.

Jaber Al-Sajour, Director of Culture, explained the importance of the exhibition in motivating the return of the book to the hands of readers, pointing to the importance of young people attending such exhibitions and acquiring books, and the interest of the institutions concerned with supporting paper books as they accurately document information.

Ahmed Al-Absi, director of the Cultural Center in Hanano, said that these exhibitions urge people to read in the time of the tyranny of the Internet and the virtual world, indicating their important role in encouraging a return to the book as it is a friend of man.

A number of visitors to the exhibition drew attention to its comprehensiveness, diversity of titles, and richness of useful information in many fields, especially literary and analytical.

In Tartous, the monthly book fair hosted by the University's Faculty of Economics included nearly three thousand books that varied between literature, politics, and poetry, in addition to critical studies and multi-subject scientific books for university students.

The head of the Writers Union branch in Tartous, Munther Issa, explained that the exhibition coincides with the celebration of the Book Day, which was launched on the twenty-sixth of April 1995. The Writers Union adopted this initiative by holding exhibitions and intellectual seminars in its various branches in the governorates, noting the importance of the fair in providing books to university students And those interested at prices not exceeding 200 pounds, which allows him to buy books in large numbers and with different titles.

In turn, Dr. Talal Suleiman, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, drew attention to this distinguished experience, which allowed for hosting the exhibition, stressing the importance of literary activities in their various forms that provide scientific and educational interest and enrich the various segments of society with the value they offer them.

The head of the Teachers Syndicate at Tartous University, Dr. Yousef Al-Ali, referred to the role of educational institutions in building the human being and their pivotal role in spreading societal awareness in general.

University students and those interested in the exhibition considered holding the exhibition periodically in colleges that encourages students to gain knowledge away from their scientific specialization and allows them to purchase many books due to their acceptable prices.
