The commemoration ceremony to mark the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp will take place on Sunday, May 1st, at 9:30 a.m.

"We are very pleased to be able to hold a large face-to-face event with survivors of the Dachau concentration camp and their families again after a two-year break in these extremely difficult times," said Foundation Director Karl Freller.

One of the speakers will be Abba Naor, Holocaust survivor and Vice President of the Comité International de Dachau.

The Bavarian State Minister for Education and Culture, Michael Piazolo, also speaks.

The day begins with religious commemorations: at 9.30 am there will be an ecumenical celebration in the Holy Blood Carmel and a Russian Orthodox service in the Resurrection Memorial Chapel.

There will be no official event in front of the Jewish memorial this year, only a wreath will be laid in silent remembrance.

After walking together to the former roll call ground, Dr.

Gabriele Hammermann, Head of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, will speak at 11.30 a.m., followed by a speech by Karl Freller, Member of the State Parliament,

Speeches by the Bavarian Minister of State for Education and Culture, Prof. Dr.

Michael Piazolo, and the President of the Comité International de Dachau, General Jean-Michel Thomas, before survivors of the Dachau concentration camp deliver commemorative messages.

As in the past two years, the wreath-laying ceremony will take place in advance without a ceremony.

At 1 p.m. there will be a commemoration at the former "SS shooting range Hebertshausen".

After the liberation ceremony, the Association for the Promotion of International Youth Meetings and Memorial Site Work in Dachau and the Dachau Camp Community invite you to the Day of Meeting.

The event will take place in the Max-Mannheimer-Haus, Roßwachtstrasse 15, Dachau.


In addition, a varied program of events around the 77th anniversary will be offered beforehand.

• 30 April, 2 to 4.30 pm: themed tour of the concentration camp memorial.
