Weilheim has a new attraction - which wants to radiate far beyond the region: On May 7th, the magic theater "Verschmittst" including a bar and lounge will open directly on the city wall.

The young operators have thus fulfilled a dream.

Weilheim

- It is a project that enchants in every respect.

And that almost ended up in Augsburg instead of Weilheim.

Yvonne Hoffmann and Stefan Schmitt had been dreaming of running their own theater for years and were looking for suitable spaces for it.

In 2019, they were about to sign a contract in the Swabian metropolis of Augsburg.

But then Corona intervened and the couple put their plans on hold for the time being.

“We fell in love with this property straight away”

By chance, the two residents of Fürstenfeldbrueck found out last summer that there was a vacancy on the Weilheim city wall, which was to give new wings to their dreams and change their lives: "We fell in love with this property straight away," says Schmitt about the location at Unteren Graben 5, right next to the City library: The premises, which were once used for a pizzeria and then stood empty for years, offer “the ideal conditions for realizing our ideas and visions for a theatre”.

The couple was able to convince the landlords of their plans and began extensive renovations last fall.

The result is the magic theater "Verschmittst" and it is truly spectacular: On the ground floor there is a perfectly furnished "Bar & Lounge", which impresses with its modern design elements in dark blue, gold and sandy beige.

Via the staircase, visitors reach the heart of the project, the brand new magic theater in the basement.

It offers space for 65 guests and will be used by the operators themselves every weekend from May.

"Resonance" is the name of the magic and acrobatic show that Yvonne Hoffmann and Stefan Schmitt developed especially for the start of their theater in Weilheim - and into which a lot of experience flowed.

Magician Schmitt became known through his successful show "The Magic Dinner", which attracted visitors from far and wide to the Fürstenfeldbruck restaurant Vierwasser, but also made guest appearances in Rosenheim and Stuttgart.

The 47-year-old, who ran an event agency until the pandemic, also performed on cruise ships.

His partner Yvonne Hoffmann, 33, was active in rhythmic gymnastics for a long time, then switched to standard tournament dance and finally to pole sport, while working as a model with top-class photographers, she developed award-winning imagery that invite you to marvel and dream.

Magic meets aerial acrobatics

For some time now, the 33-year-old has been enthusiastic about aerial acrobatics.

For "Resonance" she created a so-called "Aerial Hoop" number: on a ring that is mounted on the ceiling and rotates around its own axis, she presents breathtaking figures full of aesthetics and elegance.

In addition, Stefan Schmitt takes visitors into the realm of magic, where everyday objects become magical objects or words that the audience has thought of are suddenly written in black and white on paper.

The show offers guests "more than disappearing cloths or card tricks," promises the magician: "Embedded in stories, they experience miracles that invite you to laugh, marvel, dream and maybe even think."

"A great enrichment" for Weilheim

According to the credo of the two artists, visitors should feel completely at ease and not have to be afraid of being presented.

"We want to be hosts and take people on a journey where they experience incredible things but never have to worry about someone making fun of them," says Schmitt.

The audience should be "enchanted," adds Weilheimer Nikolaus Eisenblätter, who accompanies "Verschmittst" in terms of public relations.

For Eisenblätter, also known as a co-founder of the "Lichtkunst Weilheim" association, the magic theater with bar & lounge is "a unique offer" - and a great enrichment for the district town.

Schmitt and Hoffmann, also a couple privately, are happy to have ended up in Weilheim.

"Even the journey here is magical and the location is perfect," he enthuses.

In general, she adds, Weilheim is "much nicer than Augsburg".

The two are convinced that this small town is even “more attractive than a big city” for their project.
