The Senate of the Dominican Republic approved on Tuesday the bill that totally suspends for six months import taxes on 67 food products from the basic family basket.
This project, which responds to an initiative of the Executive Branch, seeks to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, inflation, and the war between Ukraine and Russia, as explained by President Luis Abinader, whose signature depends on the law being enacted.
These are the 10 countries with the most inflation in the world (and 3 are from South America)
The proposal levies a zero rate on certain goods that affect the cost of basic food for the Dominican family.
The initiative received the favorable vote of 19 of the 29 senators present, in a session marked by strong discussions between the members of the main party blocs.
