Energy flat rate of 300 euros now fixed: Who gets the money - and when

The cabinet has approved the relief package.

This also includes the energy price flat rate of 300 euros.

A payment date was also mentioned for the first time.

Berlin – Because of the ongoing Ukraine conflict and the corona pandemic, Germans are groaning under the extremely sharp rise in prices.

Energy prices, in particular, have recently shot up to dizzying heights.

The traffic light government wants to remedy the situation with the relief package.

This also includes the energy flat rate of 300 euros, which is to be paid out to every employed person who is subject to income tax.

300 euros energy flat rate: relief package is coming

Many details of the relief package have so far been open.

But now it is at least clear that it will come: The federal cabinet has passed the relief package and with it the urgently needed help for consumers.

This also includes the energy flat rate of 300 euros.

It is to be paid out as a one-off payment to all employees who are subject to income tax as a salary supplement.

It does not have to be applied for.

However, the lump sum is subject to income tax, so the 300 euros are gross.

The self-employed should get the 300 euros through a one-off reduction in their advance payment for income tax.

Relief package 2022: 300 euros energy flat rate possibly in September

However, there is currently no conclusive answer to the question of when the 300 euros will end up in the account.

At least a possible date has now been mentioned.

The relief package itself is scheduled to come into force in June.

However, the energy flat rate is not to be paid out until later.

September should be discussed.

Background: The energy allowance is paid out via the salary and thus via the employer.

Apparently, this approach still needs some advance notice.

On the other hand, the 9-euro ticker for public transport, which will apply for three months from June, and the “tank discount” should come earlier.

Next, the Bundestag must now agree to the relief package and then the Bundesrat.

The Chamber of States is expected to deal with the nine-euro ticket on May 20th so that it can be valid on June 1st.

However, there could still be a dispute with regard to public transport financing.

The federal states are pushing for more money from the federal government, also beyond the expected loss of income due to the temporary reduction in ticket prices - partly because of the higher energy prices for the transport companies.
