The annual plastic art exhibition organized by the Union of Palestinian Plastic Artists on the occasion of Al-Quds Day bears the title “Jerusalem is the Axis” to reflect meanings related to heritage and the Palestinian women's struggle and resistance.
The exhibition, which was hosted by the People’s Gallery, included 45 different artworks that came in multiple ways, styles, sizes and various artistic schools presented by 40 plastic artists.
Head of the Palestinian Plastic Artists Union, Abdel Muti Abu Zaid, pointed out that this year’s exhibition was distinguished by the wide participation of Palestinian, Syrian and Iranian artists of different ages, with the aim of deepening the idea of the victory of the Jerusalem cause in the whole world, embodying their visions and impressions, and emphasizing that formation is a resistance art, witness to this era, and a historian for all What happened and is happening.
Plastic artist Reem Qabtan expressed her happiness to participate in this exhibition, considering that this occasion is not only Palestinian but Arab. Everyone must participate, each according to his field, where she presented a painting entitled A Woman of Light showing Palestinian women as a symbol of giving, existence, land and cause.
As for the artist, Laila Al-Osta, she expressed her love for Palestine through two paintings in which she embodied Jerusalem and the right of the Palestinian people to return, which is a basic demand, using acrylic and oil colors in addition to merging different colors to give her paintings a special aesthetic.
The paintings of the participating plastic artist, Issam Al-Mamoun, gathered new techniques that combined photography, sculpture and graphics, as he sought to give his paintings a visual scene in a symbolized expressive style. To demand the return of the right to its owners.
Artist Hanan Ibrahim expressed her adherence to the Palestinian heritage by drawing a girl in the traditional Palestinian dress to remind generations of it and the meanings and connotations it carries using oil colors, pointing out that her participation, which she has continued year after year, aims to uphold our land and our right and preserve our culture, heritage and identity.
The plastic artist Mahmoud Abdullah did not stray from this topic, so he painted the Palestinian woman fighter as a symbol of the homeland and the land, and the martyrdom salute from him to the Palestinian people all over the world, using the expressive school.
Also among the participants is the plastic artist Muwaffaq Makhoul, who presented two paintings in which he painted Jerusalem as an artistic and national icon in an expressive style, explaining that his participation is a sentimental participation that Palestine is an Arab and global issue and the artists have a duty to recall the importance of this issue and the right of the Palestinian people to return.
The plastic artist Moataz Al-Omari participated in three works that tell of the suffering of the Palestinian artist and adherence to the right of return, pointing to the importance of the role of the plastic artist in documenting everything that the Palestinian people have been exposed to.
The opening of the exhibition, which was held with the participation of the Syrian Plastic Artists Union and cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Chancellery in Damascus and the Permanent Committee of Al-Quds Day, the Secretary-General of the Popular Struggle Front Khaled Abdel Majid, the Director General of the Al-Quds Foundation, Dr. Khalaf Al-Muftah, and Dr. Hamid Reda Asmati, the cultural advisor at the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, and the two presidents of the Syrian Plastic Artists Union attended A crowd of artists and intellectuals.
