When voices are heard comparing the war in Ukraine to the Holocaust, - a sign that we are in trouble; A sign that we have not been able to connect all the populations in the country to understand the size and importance of the event

Almost eight decades have passed since the great tragedy in the history of the Jewish people ended.

Day by day, the number of Holocaust survivors, witnesses in the first person, is dwindling.

How do you prevent the Holocaust from becoming another obscure historical event?

When voices are heard comparing the war in Ukraine to the Holocaust - a sign that we are in trouble.

When the winner of the Israel Prize expresses himself in an alienated language and says: "The Holocaust passed almost a hundred years ago and you are still talking about it, because it hurts you" - a sign that we are in trouble.

A sign that we have not been able to connect all the populations in the country to understand the size and importance of the event.

The connection to the memory of the Holocaust is made in a combination of two ways.

One is a serious study of facts and history, and the other is an emotional connection.

Without the necessary knowledge, any event, shocking as it may be, in Africa, Asia or Europe, will become Holocaust-compatible.

Without the emotional connection and instilling a sense of national belonging, we will not be able to instill in young people the feeling that the Holocaust is also theirs.

Schools are entrusted with education and learning.

They have a duty to teach the facts.

Those who deal with the emotional side today are the Holocaust institutes in the country, which receive hundreds of thousands of youths and members of the security forces, and cause them an emotional upheaval during an experiential and exciting visit.

The Holocaust institutes understand what the state institutions have not yet internalized: the content of the memory will no longer be shaped by the guardians of the past, but by the younger generation, to whom they are directed.

The central question of our generation is: what is the content of the memory of the Holocaust that we pass on to future generations, what is the memory that can shape their Jewish and value lives, and most importantly - how to do it?

The young people who visit Poland, the Holocaust institutes in Israel and the alternative journeys "Beacon of Resurrection" are a different generation.

We need to make the content accessible so that it touches, leaving a residue of knowledge, emotion and connection to what happened there many years ago in Europe.

It is our job to instill in them the understanding that the Holocaust happened to their people regardless of where their grandparents were born.

We need to connect with teens who speak a language that grandparents do not really understand - in their language.

Concept for them the history with the tools that fascinated them, despite their short range of attention and interest, and their desire to quickly jump from subject to subject.

To this end, the Holocaust Institute is working on creative and fascinating ways to achieve these goals, making extensive use of innovative technologies.

In recent years, technologies have been added to the toolbox that allow us to put the youth into a different reality, a different period, a sense of identification and especially understanding.

All that remains to be hoped is that state institutions will also understand the immense importance of instilling Holocaust remembrance for future generations, and will allow these "memory agents" to operate in a supportive state atmosphere.
