After years of anticipation, doubts and questions and quite a few rumors popping up on the net, Rockstar officially announced during the month of February that GTA 6 is in development stages and the new title in the mythological series is on its way to us.

There is really no doubt that the game is in development stages even before that long-awaited announcement, and when it does reach us it will be released for the new generation of consoles and will likely include revolutionary graphics.

Now it's revealed to us in a Twitter post by

Chris Clipper

(considered a leaker of companies like Rockstar and Notty Dogg) that the next game in the GTA series will feature a remake of its home game engine, the RAGE 9, confirming the game will be more revolutionary than we thought, describing it as a "game engine It's amazing that they are ahead of their time. "

This is the post as it was written on Twitter by Clipper (French translation): "The new version of Rockstar's game engine, the RAGE 9, in which it will use GTA 6, is considered amazing. I was able to get particularly positive feedback, and there is no reason for us to be disappointed at this point. It is a game engine that is ahead of its time. "

Of course this is a tweet from an unofficial source on Twitter and you should take it on limited warranty until we get official information on the subject, but there is a reason for Clipper's claims and he is not necessarily wrong in claims, which may sound bombastic: Rockstar introduced the first version of its home RAGE engine somewhere in 2006 With her table tennis game - Table Tennis.

Yes, you read that right.

Rockstar chose that the first title to introduce the new game engine it developed at the time would be a table tennis game, which also received rave reviews at the time.

Rockstar continued to work on and remade RAGE, and we saw the impressive results two years later with GTA IV in 2008.

RAGE is basically used by Rockstar in all the big titles it has developed over the years: Midnight Club: Los Angeles, GTA IV expansion packs, Max Payne 3 and two Red Dead Redemption games.

Each of these games has over time shown a serious development in the game engine that does not only include adjustments for future generations or graphical improvements.

Without going into complicated technical details, Rockstar has improved and refined the various animations from game to game, adding quite a few physical elements that make each game behave and feel different from its predecessor and set it apart from other games.

Take for example the way the characters in GTA or Red Dead Redemption react to the environment and incorporate a number of real-time animations - this is a very important aspect that Rockstar has taken care to emphasize in its open world games, each of which feels much more alive than its predecessor.

Working on a private game engine like RAGE is no easy task, and although a company like Rockstar just seems to be resting on its laurels (and reaping its profits from GTA V's online mode) there is no doubt that a lot of its (and GTA Online) resources are invested in the new version of the RAGE 9 - All so that you can provide the new generation with GTA 6 the impressive leap as we have been privileged to see with its titles over the years.

The patent that Rockstar has registered: what can set the open world of GTA 6 apart and is this the next generation leap?

It was also revealed last year that Rockstar and Take Two have registered a new patent which has been named "Systems And Methods For Virtual Navigation In A Gaming Environment".

The patent is supposed to make the artificial intelligence system of all the characters in the game more "smart".

The same document explained that the current systems that run Rockstar's game engine contain limited resources, so the behaviors of the characters in the open game world are also considered technically limited, which is why they perform actions that are often repetitive or perceived as unrealistic.

The document states that thanks to the patent, the game engine will no longer be limited by hardware or resources, and this will cause each NPC (Non Playable Character) to have its own "personality" that will cause it to behave differently in different situations.

An extensive part of this includes understanding the rules of the road traffic: acceleration and deceleration, turning speed, and keeping distance.

This means that already in the next game we will feel that the game world of GTA is alive and breathing much more than anything we have received in the past.

These may be some of the revolutionary innovations that Chris is talking about, beyond the expected graphic upgrades.

The same document also hints that this new system needs a cloud server in order to be able to communicate with the players and will likely require a permanent network connection.

Although GTA 6 is not mentioned by name anywhere in the current patent, it is not inconceivable to conclude that this will be Rockstar's first game to contain these elements.

Of course Rockstar as usual keeps quiet, and it leaves players in anticipation of official details on the subject.
