Attacks in Mariupol:

The steelworks in Mariupol is considered the last bastion of the Ukrainian defenders.

According to information from various media, civilians and fighters are said to be staying in the building complex.

Last Tuesday, at his meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin declared the fighting in the region to be over, but the steelworks again seems to be the focus of an attack.

As

Focus

reports, Mariupol Mayor's Advisor Petro Andryushchenko said humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the region would not materialize on Wednesday.

As a reason, Andryushchenko cited Russian forces that are currently attacking the steel plant in Mariupol.

After the talks between Putin and Guterres, the Ukrainian leadership accused the Kremlin of continuing the fighting and sabotaging the corridors.

Most recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for safe escape routes in a phone call with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin.

Russia threatens attacks in Kyiv: representatives of western countries in their sights

The tone is getting rougher:

while the West is debating possible arms deliveries to Ukraine, the situation in the Ukraine war seems to be getting worse.

As several news agencies report, the Russian Defense Ministry under Sergei Shoigu has openly made threats.

"The Russian army is on 24-hour stand-by to launch retaliatory strikes on decision-making centers in Kyiv with long-range, high-precision weapons," the ministry said in a statement.

A day earlier, at a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned against arms sales to Ukraine.

In the event of such attacks, Russia would also accept that representatives of certain Western countries would be present in the centers.

The threats are believed to be a Russian reaction to the Secretary of State in the British Ministry of Defence, James Heappey, who considers the use of British weapons against Russian soldiers to be unproblematic.

Almost nine weeks after Vladimir Putin's Russian invasion war began, the Ukrainian government of Volodymyr Zelenskyj reported that Russian forces are currently being reinforced in eastern Ukraine, possibly to speed up the offensive in that part of the country.

Cheetah tanks for Ukraine: U-turn in German politics

Weapons delivery:

The German government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has been debating for weeks, now the decision has been made: Germany will deliver "Gepard" tanks to Ukraine.

Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) announced on Tuesday that anti-aircraft tanks should be made available.

"We are working together with our American friends in training Ukrainian troops on artillery systems," the politician said at a meeting at the US military base in Ramstein.

While Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warns of a world war because of the arms deliveries, the political scientist Stefan Meister gives a lower rating.

He told

WDR

that there are certainly hardly any limits that the Russian leadership would not cross, but that he did not believe in a world war,

Criticism of former Chancellor Schröder: SPD politician is a member of Putin's clique

Criticism is getting louder:

Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD) is being criticized for his connections to Russia's President Vladimir Putin.

Several politicians from the FDP, Greens and CDU have now called for sanctions.

"He belongs as soon as possible on the sanctions list of Putin profiteers," said FDP presidium member Moritz Körner to the

Handelsblatt

.

"He no longer belongs to the crème de la crème of German domestic politics, but to the crème de la Kremlin."

Criticism also comes from other parties.

CDU foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter described Schröder as a member of Putin's clique, which also belongs on the sanctions list of western nations.

The Green MEP Reinhard Bütikofer also called for sanctions to be examined against Schröder and other former European politicians "who have since sold themselves to Vladimir Putin." Criticism of Schröder had intensified with the outbreak of the Ukraine war.

In the meantime, SPD party leader Saskia Esken has asked him to leave the party after almost 60 years of SPD membership.
