A popular excursion destination is starting again: After a long mandatory break, the Herzogsägmühler café and inn "Herzog" opens its doors again to guests far away from the canteen.

Herzogsägmühle - Pandemic, manager change: The "Herzog" café in the Diakonie Herzogsägmühle has seen turbulent times.

The restaurant was therefore closed to guests for a long time.

Visitors outside of the village should not mix with residents.

Food was only available for employees of the Diakoniedorf in the form of a company canteen.

Local operations were completely suspended except for a few weeks last year.

This was particularly frustrating for Radka Jahn, who took over the restaurant as the new manager in December 2020.

"Of course, the main job is to supply the Herzogsägmühle," she knows.

Alone: The view of the empty restaurant, which was once built as a contact point for dining guests from all over the Schongau region - a sad sight.

Especially when you know that everything was remodeled in 2019 and that the kitchen was completely renovated.

The thing with the empty tables: That should change now, however.

New concept with a new map

Business economist Radka Jahn has been working for months on a new concept that is intended to breathe new life into the once popular Herzogsägmühler restaurant.

The "Herzog" opens its doors to all guests again - with a completely new menu and breakfast offer.

By mid-May, all this could be implemented in reality.

This can be achieved together with the housekeeping, here the staff has also been increased.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

The opening hours have also been reorganized - here they are trying to do justice to the business aspects, the personnel challenges and the visitors.

The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Already at 8.30 in the morning?

“Yes, we are also focusing on a completely new breakfast offer.” In terms of price, this starts in the low-threshold area so that those who are entitled to help can also enjoy breakfast like this.

As much food as possible comes from the village

Sunday is open from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The previous closing day Tuesday is no longer valid, the new closing days are Friday and Saturday.

Because, looking back, Friday was the day with the fewest visitors anyway.

According to Jahn, the fact that Saturday is now also being added is “a business decision”.

If there is demand, "we can certainly react flexibly," she promises.

A lot is new in the “Herzog” inn, but the Diakonie inn wants to use a tried-and-tested concept when it comes to the menu: as much food as possible from the village is to be processed in the kitchen, the meat comes from the village butcher’s shop.

Of course, the adjoining children's playground can also be used, as can the mini golf course.

There's a new return system here that allows clubs to be returned even after the restaurant has closed.
