Dominic Rabb wants to "

make more intensive use

" of existing "

separation centers

" to isolate potential terrorist recruiters.

On Times Radio, he explained that the UK had 28 places in “separation centres” but that “

we are only using nine at the moment

”.

He announced that he would invest 1.2 million pounds (1.4 million euros) to target detainees who need to be isolated because they present a risk of radicalizing other detainees.

“Prisons should not become a second opportunity for terrorists”

This announcement coincides with the publication of an independent report on terrorism in prisons in England and Wales.

Its author, Jonathan Hall, writes that the threat in prisons comes from Islamist terrorism and that there was “

no other comparable threat

”.

"

Prisons must not become a second opportunity for terrorists whose plans of attack are thwarted in the community

," he said.

Several terrorist attacks have taken place in the United Kingdom in recent years, including the November 2019 murder of two young people by a man convicted of terrorism.

Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, were fatally stabbed in London by Usman Khan during a conference on a reintegration program for prisoners, in which he participated.

This 28-year-old man had been convicted of terrorism and released halfway through his sentence, eleven months before committing this attack, which also left three injured.
