Engineer Muhammad Al-Shahadat, head of the Agricultural Guidance Department in the Daraa Agriculture Directorate, confirmed that the general condition of the irrigated wheat crop in the governorate is good so far, noting that technicians in 55 extension units are following up on the reality of the wheat crop for irrigated and rainfed agriculture.

Al-Shahadat explained in a statement to SANA that the reality of the irrigated wheat crop in the first and second settlement areas is good, and supplementary irrigation is now being provided, stressing that the Directorate of Agriculture, through the Fuels Committee, has allocated quantities of agricultural diesel to complete the process of irrigating the crop.

For his part, Dr. Sultan Al-Yahya, head of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in the governorate, indicated in a similar statement that the phenological stages of wheat plants begin with germination, passing through the shores, ending with elongation and sepals, and they are related to changes and different climatic conditions such as temperature and humidity, pointing out that the critical stage in the life of wheat is the formation of spikes, which need quantities He explained that the rain-fed crops in the governorate were affected by the lack of rainfall during this month, which was also accompanied by an increase in temperature.

Engineer Muhammad Rabie Al-Janadi, a researcher at the Izra station of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Daraa, pointed out in a similar statement that the Izra research station works within the strategy of the General Authority for Scientific Agricultural Research to develop varieties adapted to local conditions, especially the high temperature, stressing that the authority has developed varieties that have proven their superiority in the conditions of need. Destitution and high temperatures are promising varieties that contribute to increasing wheat productivity.

Al-Janadi explained that the recent cessation of rain in Daraa governorate has hampered the growth of the crop.

The area planted with irrigated wheat in Daraa during the current season is 10,900 hectares, and rainfed wheat is about 82,400 hectares.
