The work of the sixth session of the General Federation of Trade Unions Council kicked off today, in the presence of Eng. Hilal Al-Hilal, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, at the union building in Damascus.
The participants discussed the economic, productive, service, labor and union reality, plans to install private sector workers, reports of the Executive Office of the Federation, professional unions and provincial labor unions submitted to the council, and the results of the annual union conferences for the current year.
On the Federation’s achievements during the last period, the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions, Jamal Al-Qadri, stated in his speech that the most important of these achievements are the creation of the Seafarers’ Syndicate for workers on the high seas based in Tartous, the renewal of the contract signed between the General Federation and the General Organization for Health Insurance, and the approval of 23 investment projects in the governorates.
Al-Qadri pointed out that the achievements also included launching free educational courses for working class children for the basic and secondary education certificates, benefiting 20,000 students, and intensifying the courses for rural women in the governorates to set up small and micro projects, which have benefited 4,000 women so far.
The inauguration was attended by members of the central leadership of the Baath Party, Muhammad Shaaban Azzouz and Ammar al-Sibai.
