May 12 is the annual International Nurses Day. The International Council of Nurses announced this year's theme "Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health".

This year's theme emphasizes the importance of nurses in strengthening the entire health care system, and reminds everyone to support and allocate resources to the development of the nursing profession.

The recent easing of the epidemic has just given us the opportunity to review the experience of the past several waves of epidemics, re-examine the important role our nurses have played in the fight against the epidemic, and prepare for a possible rebound or sixth wave of the epidemic.

And I think more importantly, we would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to nurses around the world, and a special heartfelt thank you to our colleagues in public hospitals for staying on duty over the past few days, caring for patients around the clock, and showing the spirit of Nightingale.

Written by: Poon En-wing, Chief Nursing Administration Manager, Hospital Authority

The fifth wave of the epidemic came quickly and urgently, and the number of confirmed patients increased by tens of thousands every day. The challenges and pressures faced by nurses in public hospitals can be said to be unprecedented.

It is precisely because of the large number of patients who need to be admitted to the hospital, in addition to public hospitals, the Hong Kong Infection Control Center of North Lantau Hospital and the Hospital Authority Infectious Disease Center, we have also used the AWE COVID-19 Treatment Center and many new community isolation facilities to receive patients .

As you all know, some community treatment and isolation facilities are not originally designed for medical purposes. For many frontline nurses, these are relatively unfamiliar working environments. They are deployed to these venues to work or provide support, whether in Infection control, facility operation, and patient care all required extra effort, but they all went to the front line to serve patients without complaint.

The fifth wave of the epidemic has seen a large number of patients admitted to the hospital, and the challenges and pressures faced by nurses in public hospitals can be said to be unprecedented.

In the face of the uncertain development of the epidemic, we have not slackened. On the one hand, we have arranged to review various hardware facilities, and on the other hand, we have also actively explored the mechanism of strengthening the allocation of front-line manpower.

I have noticed that everyone is concerned about the loss of medical care. In fact, we have been monitoring the manpower situation and maintaining communication with the government.

In addition to actively investing resources to strengthen the nursing professional ladder, so that nurses can stay and develop with peace of mind, various colleges and universities have been increasing the number of nursing students in recent years, hoping to train more new recruits to join our team.

I know that many students who are majoring in nursing have the ambition to serve patients. In the current epidemic, many students and nurses have volunteered to help answer our medical enquiry hotline.

It is really encouraging to see these prospective nurses doing their best for their patients, and we look forward to seeing more new blood join our nursing team.

"Hong Kong 01" "01 Clinic", in cooperation with the Hospital Authority, publishes a column "Garden Tour" written by medical staff every Wednesday.

Apricot Forest.

"Xinglin" comes from the story of Dong Feng, a famous doctor in the Three Kingdoms period. Later generations praised medical care as "Xinglin". Four people from Xinglin from the Hospital Authority led the garden to visit Xinglin Grand View Garden. A little bit of reason.

Looking at the epidemic from history, there is an organic cooperation between Chinese and Western medicine to fight the epidemic
