According to the authorities, the village of Kolbasna in Transnistria was the target of a Ukrainian attack.

In the pro-Russian separatist area in Moldova there is a depot with around 20,000 bullets of Soviet-era ammunition.

The Transnistrian Ministry of the Interior said several drones flew over the place near the border with Ukraine during the night.

In the morning, Kolbasna was fired on from Ukraine.

However, there were no dead or injured.

The drones also flew to Transnistria from Ukraine, the ministry claimed.

Kolbasna, called Cobasna in Romanian, is located about two kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

The ammunition depot is guarded by Russian troops.

According to the Interior Ministry, it is considered the largest ammunition depot in Europe.

The authorities in Transnistria had already reported a number of explosions on Monday and Tuesday.

The Ministry for State Security in the regional capital Tiraspol, an army unit and a Russian radio tower were attacked.

Concerns about Russian intervention in Moldova

The explosions increased concern in Moldova that the Ukraine war would spill over to the neighboring country.

President Maia Sandu called on the population on Tuesday to remain calm.

Transnistria split from Moldova in 1990 after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Internationally, however, the area is not recognized as independent.

In addition to the ammunition depot, the Russian army also has a military base in the region.

The government in Chisinau has long been demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from the region.

Media in Moscow report that more than 200,000 people in Transnistria have Russian passports.
