Malik Harris represents Germany with "Rockstars" at this year's "Eurovision Song Contest".

The ESC fans themselves are unsure: can the 24-year-old finally break the German curse in the music competition?

Turin – In recent years, Germany has not exactly covered itself in glory at the "Eurovision Song Contest" (all news about the music competition): Since Lena Meyer-Landrut's ESC victory in 2010, things have gone downhill for the Federal Republic, only Michael Schulte lifted in 2018 with "You Let Me Walk Alone" and place 4 from the otherwise sometimes disastrous results a little.

Malik Harris should change that in Turin in 2022 – will that work?

Malik Harris represents Germany at the "Eurovision Song Contest" - with "Rockstars" to success?

On May 14th, this year's "Eurovision Song Contest" finale will take place in Turin (overview of all ESC 2022 candidates) and despite Germany's largely poor performance to date, there are high hopes for Malik Harris.

With his catchy tune "Rockstars" he was able to win the "Germany 12 Points" preliminary decision.

"The whole evening was incredibly intense," enthused the 24-year-old after his victory, for which he was "extremely grateful".

Musically, the German Eurovision act relies on a mixture of pop and rap, but at the same time uses elements from folk, rock and electro.

The son of talk show host Ricky Harris was able to convince the jury and prevailed against a total of five competitors, but in an international comparison it could look very different, as German fans fear.

From a German perspective, last year's "Eurovision Song Contest" disaster should be avoided in 2022, but the ESC fans don't seem that hopeful this time either:

"I think we'll get a maximum of 12 points in total," predicts a Twitter user.

He is not alone in his opinion: "12 points are very optimistic if we get a point at all," fears another.

Some ESC fans consider it rather unlikely that Malik Harris (all information about the German ESC representative) will occupy one of the top ranks with "Rockstars" in Turin - for some, the hope rests on the "so weak competition" that dem 24-year-olds could "even get a reasonable result".

Others believe that the pop singer can only convince with other, non-musical qualities: "The only thing that can still save us is that young ESC fans find Malik somehow cute."

Will Malik Harris break the German "Eurovision Song Contest" curse?

Signs give little hope

Malik Harris could actually fail due to the peculiarities of the "Eurovision Song Contest", because both the not always understandable ratings of the jury and the results of the telephone voting caused great astonishment here and there in the past (this is how the ESC points are awarded in Torino).

If you look at the past rankings, Germany seems to simply not be able to put off its ESC curse.

The first voices from international viewers about the German Eurovision contribution also show that the 24-year-old will not have it that easy in Turin.

"I would like Malik Harris a lot more if he had a better song," said a Swedish ESC fan.

The first signs are by no means as positive as hoped - but as we all know, hope dies last!

ESC preliminary decision: Schöneberger does not let the winner go to the toilet – "I have to pee like that"

At the ESC preliminary decision, however, there was a curious scene: Barbara Schöneberger did not let Eurovision star Malik Harris go to the toilet, even though the musician had to urgently!
