And on April 24, the Nuevo León Specialized Femicide Prosecutor's Office announced in a statement that Debanhi's death will be investigated under the femicide protocol.

The decision comes after her family and friends gave her the last goodbye over the weekend, between calls for justice.

April 8: Debanhi's disappearance

Debanhi Susana Escobar Bazaldúa disappeared on Friday night in the Nueva Castilla neighborhood in Escobedo, Nuevo León.

According to the version of the authorities, Debanhi came from a party and got out of an Uber on the Nuevo Laredo highway.

According to information from the Nuevo León Attorney General's Office, the private transport driver stated that the 18-year-old girl "got out of the vehicle at Carrera Vía Numancia and Carretera Vía Laredo at approximately 4:24 a.m.

From that location, an image was taken that is the one that circulated on social networks, said Ricardo Mejía, Undersecretary of Public Security.

In a press release published after 10 p.m. on Thursday, the Prosecutor's Office said that it was working on "the recovery of the body with the support of the State Civil Protection" and that the place "due to the conditions of abandonment of the site, the presence of water and the depth presents difficulties for field experts".

The report also stated that at that time it was not "possible to establish the characteristics of the person without life" and asked "to wait for the official news regarding these facts, which will be supported by the relevant scientific evidence."

One, for the certainty of the family; two , for peace of mind and clarification for society about what happened in this case and three, to understand the case and be able to act accordingly and try to avoid other cases like this one from Debanhi in the future," he added.

The attorney general of the Mexican state of Nuevo León, Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero Gutiérrez, reported at a press conference that "responsibility procedures" have been initiated against those who participated in the search for the young Debanhi Escobar.

"We detected some deficiencies," Guerrero said, saying that "due to the omissions and errors" in the search for Debanhi, he made the decision to remove the prosecutor specializing in missing persons, Rodolfo Salinas de la Peña, and the specialized prosecutor in anti-kidnapping, Javier Caballero García.

The official also said that "this does not mean that we are going to wait for the procedure, that the administrative procedures of responsibility conclude, if someone else was omitted or made mistakes that affected the investigation, they will be sanctioned."

The Prosecutor's Office also presented to the press videos of security cameras from the vicinity of the place where Debanhi's body was found in which, according to the entity, the young woman is seen alive before her disappearance during the early hours of April 9 .

"The last known image of Debanhi is the one in which he is seen walking towards the area where the cistern is located [of the Motel Nueva Castilla motel]," said the deputy prosecutor of the Public Ministry, Luis Enrique Orozco Suárez.

Griselda Núñez Espinoza, prosecutor specialized in femicides and crimes against women of the Attorney General of the State of Nuevo León, said that the investigation has two aspects.

"The first one, as I tell you, is to clarify the facts for which Debanhi lost his life."

The second line of investigation, according to the prosecutor, is focused on determining if there was an omission on the part of the authorities.
