Since the campsite in Oberschleißheim was no longer available, the Kreisjugendring München-Land (KJR) has been looking for an alternative, close-to-nature overnight stay for young people.

Now you've found what you're looking for - at Lake Walchensee.

District

- The area is the youth camp Breitort, right on the shore of Lake Walchen, reports the district office.

The district of Munich leased the site, which is owned by the Bavarian State Forests, after the previous operators withdrew and left it to the KJR for operation within the framework of a usage contract.

The lease will initially run for two years.

During this time, the district invests in upcoming renovation and repair work.

According to the press release, he will spend between 30,000 and 40,000 euros.

Around 40,000 euros per year will be incurred for the operation and maintenance of the site and the buildings.

Historical connection

By 2023, it should be clarified whether and under what conditions the common goal, a long-term assumption of sponsorship of the Walchensee camp by the district and the district youth council, can be made possible.

The deciding factor for the takeover was the location and the good infrastructure on the square, which enables needs-based educational offers for children and young people.

There are also historical connections.

Before the Walchenseeverein eV, the District Youth Council of Upper Bavaria operated the facility.

Its initiator, Josef Hederer, also founded the KJR.

No rental to private individuals

A main house, ten tent huts made of wood and a wooden house can be booked by self-catering groups of between 75 and 130 people from child and youth welfare organizations - it cannot be rented to private individuals.

The camp is open from May to mid-October.
