According to Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach, the virologist Christian Drosten is withdrawing from the committee of experts, which is tasked with independently evaluating the measures relating to the corona pandemic and submitting reform proposals.
»Unfortunately, Christian Drosten has just informed me that he is no longer supporting the evaluation of the Infection Protection Act for the Federal Government and Parliament.
It's a heavy loss because nobody could do it better," Lauterbach tweeted on Thursday.
The commission consists of experts from various specialist areas, who are to prepare a report by June 30th.
The body should not be confused with the Federal Government's expert council.
According to the "Tagesspiegel", the committee of experts should not initially evaluate the effectiveness of the corona measures, and Minister Lauterbach withdrew this order at the insistence of the commission.
The newspaper suspects that Drosten is withdrawing from the committee due to his already high workload or because these tasks are no longer available.
