Bad Reichenhall - Last year more people died in the Berchtesgaden and Chiemgau Alps than ever before.
The mountain rescue service Chiemgau announced on Thursday in Bad Reichenhall (Berchtesgadener Land district) that there was a sad record number of 34 mountain deaths in 2021.
More mountain deaths in 2021: 650 missions for mountain rescuers in summer alone
In the summer alone there were 650 missions for the mountain rescuers, around 100 more than in the previous year.
The task forces reported that young hikers and mountaineers in particular between the ages of 21 and 30 had to be searched and rescued again and again.
It is often the case that holidaymakers come from remote regions.
In the Bavarian Alps: Numerous operations in recent weeks
In the past few weeks, the emergency services throughout the Alps have again reported on numerous operations.
A double-digit number of people have already died in the mountains in Bavaria this year.
A 27-year-old recently fell in the Karwendel and died.
