The five new names will replace old names that have caused serious casualties, including "Wasp", "Lotus", "Morafi", "Swan" and "Huan Gao".

The Observatory pointed out that at the 54th session of the Typhoon Committee, five new names for tropical cyclones were adopted. Among them, "Xiwangyang" and "Spoonbill" were both proposed by Macau. Xiwangyang Mountain is an architectural relic, and the latter is a common migratory bird in Macau.

The other three new names are "red sandalwood" proposed by the Philippines, which is an arbor plant; Jane Lavie proposed by South Korea represents a spring-blooming shrub with yellow flowers "forsythia"; As for Banlang, proposed by Vietnam, Represents the flowering tree "Lagerstroemia".

According to established practice, the Typhoon Committee will consider delisting tropical cyclones that cause heavy casualties and economic losses, and replace them with new names, including "Wasp", "Lotus", "Molafi", "Swan" and "Huan Gao".
