An air of déjà vu.

As observed the previous month, a new cloud of sand from the Sahara should affect part of France this Thursday.

The sky should turn an ocher color and the grains of sand should settle on cars, sidewalks and roofs in several regions of France.

The phenomenon which has already started on Wednesday, should continue this Thursday, affecting a large part of the South-West and going up to Brittany and in the North-West, according to forecasts by Météo France.

According to the forecast of the #MOCAGE #Meteofrance model, passage of desert dust tomorrow, Wednesday 27, on the South-West with some deposits on the ground.

Sand already seems to have deposited this Thursday on the mountainous reliefs of the Pyrenees.

Photos posted on social networks show an ocher sky, especially in Andorra, near Pas de la Casa.

This phenomenon, which has already been observed several times since the beginning of the year, occurs when the "Sirocco", this strong wind from the Sahara, blows over the Mediterranean basin.

The smallest particles concentrate in the air, and can even affect its quality, while the heavier ones fall back to the ground.

Is the arrival of these dust clouds related to climate change?

“To date, this has not been demonstrated, but if it turns out that the depressions pass closer to the Maghreb than before, noted Paul Marquis, boss of e-meteo service, a company based in Marseilles with the Parisian.

Why is it getting so common

These sand rains are not without consequence on the ecosystem.

“They rot the snowpack, this can accelerate its melting by 10 to 12 days”, Paul Marquis further specified.

The Sahara remains the largest contributor of dust to the work on the planet.
