The World Health Organization announced today that Africa is witnessing an increase in cases of corona, led by the doubling of injuries recorded in South Africa.
And the Reuters news agency quoted Benido Mbuma, director of infectious and non-communicable diseases in the organization’s office in Africa, as saying in an online press conference: that new infections and deaths in corona on the continent increased this week for the first time after a decrease of more than two months in injuries and one month in deaths, explaining that this rise It is closely related to the increasing number of reported cases in South Africa as the country enters the winter season there as respiratory diseases become more common.
He added, "Infections in South Africa doubled only last week... Although the Omicron strain continues to mutate, there is currently no evidence to indicate that this new increase is linked to any new sub-species or new mutation."
And health authorities in South Africa are watching, the country that recorded the largest number of injuries and deaths on the African continent so far, whether there are signs of a fifth wave of the pandemic.
