Just recently, Ottobahn GmbH in Taufkirchen broke ground for its first test track, and now another special mobility project is in the starting blocks: A “test field for intelligent mobility concepts” is to be created on the TIP site, where technologies related to autonomous driving will be tested must.

Taufkirchen

- The test site will be operated by the company IABG (Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft). The project is scientifically supported by the Technical University of Munich and the Bavarian Ministry of Transport also contributes to the costs.

The project was presented to the municipal council building committee on Tuesday evening as “a project whose innovativeness is significant and remarkable for the Taufkirchen location”.

Mayor Ullrich Sander (independent) is pleased that his community is once again playing a pioneering role with the realization.

“I think it's great that we have something so innovative on our site.

We can only welcome that.” The TIP site, the technology and innovation park, is increasingly worthy of its name.

The test site is to be set up on around 8,000 square meters of the IABG company on the corner of Caroline-Herschel-/Einsteinstrasse.

Big test crossing

A test crossing will form the focal point behind a secured entrance area.

Different traffic scenarios are to be examined here, with a wide variety of road users - automated vehicles, cars driven by people, cyclists and pedestrians.

Weaker groups such as older people, children or people with disabilities should also be specifically taken into account in the development and testing of automated traffic.

Because, as the project description says: “Societal acceptance of autonomous driving stands and falls with safety from a technical and legal point of view.” Test vehicles with different assistance systems have already been tested in test areas around the world and have also taken part in real road traffic.

New charging concepts

What should also be examined: the development and testing of new parking and charging concepts as well as charging in front of traffic lights.

Because in addition to automation, the electrification of vehicles will also progress.

Simple, contactless, inductive charging will therefore play a major role in the spread of electric vehicles in the private sector, but also in public transport such as buses and taxis.

In addition to the test crossing, there should also be an automated parking garage and a so-called "Park & Charge Lane" where electric cars are automatically parked and inductively charged.

5G cellular

With the use of modern sensor technology and also 5G mobile radio technology, the partners on the test site want to examine the networking of vehicles for their practicability and make recommendations for industry and politics.

A simulation center should not only accommodate reception, offices and social rooms for staff and customers, but also the data center for the planned simulators.

The new driving simulator from the Chair of Traffic Engineering at TUM is also integrated here.

It is intended to enable virtual tests that would be too dangerous or too expensive to implement at the test junction.

According to Sander, the test track should be built this year.

The building committee welcomed the project and authorized the administration to give the community's approval – if necessary.
